Ascoli regards it as *to-in-od-lu, root lu, plu of dol, but *od-lu- would rather mean "go out", "go off". Welsh cynull, gathering, Cornish cuntell, Old Breton contullet, are, according to Ernault, borrowed from Latin contuli.
